Wondering what is going on around Southern Georgia this week? Here are some things you may be interested in.

2011 Base Independence Day Celebration
Date: Friday, July 1, approx. 4:00 p.m.
Location: MCLB Albany, Boyett Park
Free and Open to the Public
Miss Georgia 2011 will be a special guest. Inflated attractions, rock climbing, food, fireworks, Albany Marine Band, K-9 Demonstration, and military vehicles on display. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs!!

Movie in the Park
Date: Saturday, July 2
Location: Downtown Albany, Ga
The movie choice is "The Blind Side".

Cordele Fireworks on the Flint
Date: Saturday, July 2, 9:30 p.m.
Location: Georgia Veterans State Park
Parking fee $5

Discovery Days- River Bash
Date: Sunday, July 3  2-4 p.m.
Location: Flint Riverquarium
Crafts and activities for the whole family.

Independence Day Fireworks Celebration
Date: Monday, July 4, approx. 9:30 p.m.
Place: S. E. corner of the Civic Center parking lot
Parking:  Plenty of free parking in downtown Albany and the Civic Center parking lot.
Join us for the biggest fireworks show in Southwest Georgia!  The event will take place in the southeast parking lot behind the Civic Center.  Vendors will be on site with food and cold drinks beginning at 5:00 pm. 

Thomasville Independence Day Festival
Date: Monday, July 4, 6:30 to 10:00 p.m.
Location: Remington Park, 1304 Remington Ave.
Celebrate Independence Day with good old-fashioned fun and activities for the whole family!  Enjoy great games, food, and music!  And, of course, a fantastic fireworks display beginning at dark!  The festivities begin at 6:30 PM with games and arts & crafts for the kids. 

Discounted Tickets for both Thronateeska and the Flint Riverquarium.
Sunday, July 4
 Open 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
$5 admission to FRQ or purchase a joint Flint RiverQuarium/Thronateeska ticket for $8.
2011 Fishing Rodeos
Cost: Free to the public; kids must have adult supervision
Location: Ken Gardens Pond - 1509 Ken Garden Rd.

Rules: Maximum of 3 poles; fishing license required.  Ken Gardens Pond is stocked with channel catfish by the Georgia Deaprtment of Natural Resources Wildlife Division
